2024 NFL Draft watch: Players to watch for the Giants on Championship Saturday

2024 NFL Draft watch: Players to watch for the Giants on Championship Saturday

Good morning, New York Giants’ fans! Hello and happy Saturday! Welcome to the final weekend of college football’s Championships.

National Football League
Time: In Progress.
Stream: NFL 2024 Football Live On-Demand (Free Trial)

We had a head-start on the parties yesterday as well when we hosted the CUSA and the Pac-12 tournaments. Today we have eight championship games on tap over the course of the day:

  • Big 12 Championship: (7) Texas vs. (18) Oklahoma State - ABC, noon

  • MAC Championship: Toledo vs. Miami (OH) - ESPN, noon

  • Mountain West Championship: UNLV vs. Boise State - Fox, 3: 00 p.m.

  • SEC Championship: (8) Alabama vs. (1) Georgia - CBS, 4: 00 p.m.

  • AAC Championship: (22) Tulane vs. SMU - ABC, 4: 00 p.m.

  • Sun Belt Championship: Troy vs. Appalachian State - ESPN, 4: 00 p.m.

  • Big-10 Championship: (16) Iowa vs. (2) Michigan - Fox, 8: 00 p.m.

  • ACC Championship: (4) Florida State vs. (14) Louisville - 8: 00 p.m.

Thus, I would encourage everyone to turn this into an open thread about all of today’s matches and future NFL players on the pitch. However, for this piece to remain reasonable, I will focus on only Big 12, SEC, Big-10, and ACC championships.

However, I would like to offer Michael Pratt at Tulane a small acknowledgement. Tulane’s QB might be on the rise for the rest of the drafting period. Know him before it is late.

Big 12 Championship

Oklahoma State

  • Collin Oliver (edge)

Texas

  • Xavier Worthy (WR)

  • Adonai Mitchell (WR)

  • Ja’Tavion Sanders (TE - Hybrid)

  • T’Vondre Sweat (iDL)

  • Byron Murphy II (iDL)

  • Jahdae Barron (S)

Notes: Over the past several years, Texas has really impressed in recruits, and they might be looking at producing many future NFL athletes. Mitchell and Worthy are two receivers who can really stretch defenses, so the Giants will probably target them for sure. Another prospect is Thundre Sweat who would be absolutely huge as a 6 foot 4 and 362 pounder, but with amazing mobility for such a fat man. The union of Sweat with Dexter Lawrence would just be the stupidest thing ever!!!!ityEngine post

SEC Championship

Alabama

  • J.J. Latham (OT)

  • Jermaine Burton (WR)

  • Dallas Turner (edge)

  • Chris Braswell (edge)

  • Kool-Aid McKinstry (CB)

  • Terrion Arnold (CB)

Georgia

  • Brock Bowers (TE)

  • Ladd McConkey (WR)

  • Carson Beck (QB)

  • Amarius Mims (OT)

  • Kamari Lassiter (CB)

  • Javon Bullard (S)

  • Tykee Smith (S)

Notes: This, however, should not deter people because this game is still a scouting bonanza for both teams. I will be looking to see how Alabama’s defense is going to play against Georgia TE Brock Bowers, personally. He could well be the most dangerous offensive mismatch at the college level, just behind Harrison Jnr. who is one of the deadliest receivers out there. It could also give Georgia QB Carson Beck a chance to position himself well in the 2024 draft — or throw his hat in the ring ahead of quarterbacks such as Shadeur Sanders and Quinn Ewers, who are slated lead the draft class in 2

BIG-10 Championship

Michigan

  • J.J. McCarthy (QB)

  • Blake Corum (RB)

  • Donovan Edwards (RB)

  • A.J. Barner (TE)

  • Roman Wilson (WR)

  • Drake Nugent (C)

  • Kris Jenkins (iDL)

  • Junior Colson (LB)

  • Rod Moore (S)

Notes: Sadly, injuries hit this game so much that they knocked out of order three players I had been waiting to see here. About two weeks ago, CB Cooper DeJean (voted Big 10 Defensive Back and Return Specialist of The Year) suffered a lower-limb injury during practice on the Iowa side. TE Luke Lachey underwent surgery on his ankle back in September of this year. He might come back to play in this game, but at this point it is more hope than anything.

Last week, Zak Zinter (Michigan guard) fractured tibia and fibula against Ohio state. The injury caused several fractures on his hands, for which he required surgery but he cannot play today. He will likely be available for the 2024 season just like his draft stock. Though that would have been great to watch him in this game and during the playoffs.

ACC Championship

Louisville

  • Jamari Thrash (WR)

Florida State

  • Keon Coleman (WR)

  • Johnny Wilson (WR)

  • Trey Benson (RB)

  • Jaheim Bell (TE)

  • Jared Verse (edge)

Notes: Regrettably, FSU QB Jordan Travis broke his arm in the game two weeks ago with North Alabama and is out for the rest of the season. The injury also marked an end for his college career as a red-shirt senior.

This game speaks to how powerful and useful the transfer portal is for field players. Each school has a top prospect who began somewhere else only to bloom away once they transferred. Jamari Thrash began playing for Georgia State from where Keon Coleman, who transfereed from Michigan State, came in. It was in the pre – season in 2023 that both were transferred and advanced a step this year. Former Giants’ training camp home at SUNY Albany is where I met Jared Verse, who ended up as one of the best EDGE defenders on a power-5 conference last season.
